General Workshops
1. DIGGING FOR TUNES: Learning about contrafraction: the roots of Jewish and Israeli songs in other cultures.
2. CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SONG: Check out how your favorite singers use Jewish text to inspire and empower their music.
3. GET 'EM SINGING: A song leading session that explains how to engage, carry, and inspire your audience. These techniques and strategies will help you become a successful song leader at summer camps, schools, community gatherings, etc.
4. RHYTHMS OF OUR TRIBE: Learn rhythms from the world of Jewish music. Play your drums, homemade percussive instruments, or anything that you can ‘bang on’ in this workshop. **This program can collaborate with the arts department. Instruments could be constructed before the arrival of THE SHUK.**
5. MARCH TO THE BEAT OF YOUR OWN DRUM -- With drums, found instruments, homemade percussive instrument, create rhythms to accompany Jewish songs. **This workshop can also be a collaboration with the arts department.**
6. 'THE SHUK' SCHOOL OF ROCK: Campers create an ensemble that studies, jams, and performs music from the pantheon of Jewish and Israeli music. Participants will be invited to perform at evening concert with THE SHUK. We recommend a class size of up to 12 campers.
7. CHICKEN SOUP FOR YOUR SONG: A song writing class that uses Jewish text and participants' memories to build a foundation for creating music. THE SHUKrecommends using Workshop 2 in conjunction with this workshop.
